Our Team

Brentwood Bay Veterinary Clinic has been a fixture in the heart of Brentwood Bay Village for more than 35 years. As a small, privately owned practice, our clinic has built a reputation for personal, attentive care that treats every patient like a member of the family. We offer a welcoming alternative to corporate or high-volume hospitals. Here, the veterinarians know your pet by name, and take the time to understand their history, habits, and health needs.

Doctor Simon Pemble
“I grew up in a house which was also my father’s veterinary practice and had been originally built for a veterinary practice in 1884. It was maybe not a surprise that I always wanted to be a vet! I graduated from Bristol University (UK) in 1988. I worked in the Northwest of England eventually owning my own practice in 1996. In 2009 myself, my wife, daughter and our assorted pets immigrated to Victoria and never want to move again.
I started at Brentwood Bay Vet in 2013 and became the owner in 2020. I bought the practice because I really enjoy working in a small, close knit community as it allows me to connect with my patients and clients on a deeper level. It’s such a privilege to see a puppy or kitten grow into adulthood and then to help support both them and their people through their eventual aging process. On the weekends I enjoy cycling, hiking and camping and throwing balls for Murph, our Australian Shepherd.”
Doctor Neil Boulton
“I have been a Veterinarian for over 50 wonderful years now. Trained in Liverpool, England, I spent my first 5yrs in a busy practice in Cantebury. My wife Carole and I then immigrated to Canada where I eventually owned a successful small animal practice in the Leaside/Rosedale area of Toronto. I then moved to Victoria where I took over the Brentwood Bay Veterinary Clinic in 1995 where I specialized in small animal care with an emphasis on nutrition and preventive medicine.
In 2020, I sold the practice to Dr Pemble and am currently working part time, as I am reluctant to distance myself from a profession I love. Carole and I have 2 children and 5 grandchildren all living on South Vancouver Island. We have a chocolate labrador named Logan and 2 mischievous cats named Martha and George. I enjoy walking, travelling, motorcycle riding and most recently, bird watching.”

Shauna Barter
“Hi, I’m Shauna and I’m a born and raised Victoria local. My love of pets started in childhood with the well-meaning kidnappings of neighbourhood ‘strays’ and has expanded into a 3 decade career in animal health, with the last 18 years helping the pets and people of Brentwood Bay. What an honour it is to be a trusted member of your pet’s healthcare team!
When I’m not at work I can usually be found on a rowing machine or out walking some of the region’s many trails. I’m also an avid crocheter, and love nothing more than to turn colourful string into a sweater while listening to an audiobook.
My feline familiar is Lego and he is an aficionado of plastic rings off containers and stolen bits of paper. Lego specializes in highly nuanced crimes of inconvenience (his nickname is The Crimebag), running the most fast, and tracking the migratory patterns of invasive lizards.”
Katy
“Growing up in Victoria helped shape my appreciation for both community and the outdoors. Outside of work, I enjoy staying active through hiking and running with my dog, Shea (who occasionally thinks she’s setting the pace), and making time to explore the beautiful trails our Island has to offer.
I’ve had the privilege of being a part of this veterinary clinic team for almost 2 decades and feel fortunate to have built lasting relationships with our clients, patients, and colleagues over the years. Caring for animals and working alongside a great team has made this feel like a second home.”

Emma Smith
“Hi, I’m Emma! I grew up in Victoria and have always had a love for animals. When I was a kid we called our house the funny farm, having pets from dogs and cats to horses. I have been working at Brentwood Bay Vet for the past four years and love being able to combine my passion for animals with helping support pets and their families every day. One of my favourite parts of working in the clinic is building connections with clients and being part of a close-knit community that truly cares about animal health and wellbeing.
Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my dogs, Halo and Joey, who keep me busy. Whether we’re out exploring trails or relaxing at home they are always by my side. In my free time I enjoy adventuring with friends, staying active, and making the most of the beautiful Island. I love being part of a community that shares a strong appreciation for animals, nature, and an active lifestyle.”
