Services

When you bring your pet to Brentwood Bay Veterinary Clinic, you are trusting us with a member of your family, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our doctors bring decades of experience to every appointment, and approach each animal with the same warmth and attention they would give their own pets. The services we offer are designed to support your dog or cat through every stage of life, from puppy and kitten wellness visits to senior care and everything in between.
Wellness & Preventive Care
Regular wellness exams are the foundation of a long, healthy life for your pet. We recommend scheduling a checkup at least once a year, and more frequently for senior animals or those with ongoing health issues. During a wellness visit, we assess your pet’s overall condition, check vital signs, and discuss any concerns you have. Preventive care also includes parasite control and vaccinations. We can recommend the right flea and parasite prevention products for your pet, and help you understand which vaccines may be recommended based on your pet’s activities and exposure risk. We also offer spay and neuter surgeries, which not only prevent unwanted litters, but also reduce the risk of certain cancers and behavioural problems.
Veterinary Dentistry
Just as with humans, dental hygiene is an important part of a long and healthy life for your pet. We believe consistent oral care is vital to the health of gums and teeth. However, sometimes preventive measures are not enough. If this is the case, we have everything required for dental surgery on site. We can provide scaling, polishing, dental x-ray, gingival treatment, or whatever dental care is needed to correct problems in your pet’s mouth. Because dental procedures require your pet to be under general anaesthesia, we perform a pre‑surgical evaluation beforehand to ensure safety. We can also discuss home dental care options, such as brushing and dental chews, to help you maintain your pet’s oral health between cleanings.
Radiology
When your pet is unwell, fast and accurate diagnosis makes all the difference. Our clinic is equipped with in-house radiology and laboratory capabilities, which allows us to perform many diagnostic tests on site and get results quickly. This reduces stress for both you and your pet, and it means we can start treatment sooner. Radiology (X-rays) helps us evaluate the chest, abdomen, bones, and joints. We use X-rays to diagnose conditions such as fractures, arthritis, foreign body obstructions, heart enlargement, and some types of tumours. The images are reviewed by Dr. Boulton or Dr. Pemble, who explain what they see and what it means for your pet.
Laboratory Testing
Our in-house laboratory equipment allows us to run urine analysis, faecal examinations, and other tests during your appointment. Having these services available on site means we can often diagnose and begin treatment in a single visit, without sending samples to an outside lab and waiting days for results. For more extensive analyisis, samples are express-couriered to Idexx Laboratories in Delta, and results are faxed back to the clinic (usually within 24-48 hours) where they are reviewed by one of our Veterinarians. This means clients have the benefit of a qualified pathologist’s interpretation of their pet’s results, in addition to our own.
Surgery
We offer a range of surgical procedures for canine and feline patients, including spays, neuters, mass removals, and exploratory surgeries. Before any surgical procedure, we conduct a thorough pre-surgical evaluation. This includes a physical exam and, depending on your pet’s age and health status, blood work to assess organ function and anaesthesia risk. We take pain management seriously and will discuss a plan to keep your pet comfortable before, during, and after surgery. On the day of surgery, we will review discharge instructions with you and make sure you understand how to care for your pet during recovery.
Hospitalized Treatment
If your dog or cat needs to stay with us for medical treatment, you can trust that they will receive close, attentive care. For hospitalized patients, our team monitors vital signs, administers medications and fluids, and provides supportive care around our open hours. While we are not a 24-hour emergency facility, we coordinate closely with local emergency hospitals to ensure continuity of care when needed. For after-hours emergencies, we direct clients to WAVES Veterinary Emergency at 947 Langford Parkway (778-432-4322) or Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital at 760 Roderick Street (250-475-2495). Both facilities are open 24/7.
Nutrition Counselling
Nutrition is a cornerstone of good health, and the right diet can prevent or manage many medical conditions. We stock a number of veterinary recommended, prescription diets, and can often also put in special orders for pets who require products that we don’t stock, or are on specialty or novel protein diets. Whether you have a growing puppy, an active adult dog, a finicky cat, or a senior pet with special needs, we can offer nutrition counselling and guidance tailored to your pet’s age, breed, activity level, and health status.
Senior Pet Care
As dogs and cats age, they become more susceptible to arthritis, kidney disease, dental problems, weight changes, and cognitive decline. We recommend more frequent wellness exams for senior pets so we can catch age-related changes early. We can also help you adjust your pet’s diet, exercise routine, and home environment to support comfort and quality of life in their golden years. Our goal is to help your pet stay active, happy, and pain-free for as long as possible.
